I photograph many of my family sessions here because it offers such a beautiful mix of open fields, trails, tall grasses, and greenery throughout the year. I especially love how much room there is for families to move around, play with their little ones, and create a mix of both gently guided portraits and candid moments together.
Why I Love Hardberger Park for Family Photos
One of my favorite things about photographing families at Phil Hardberger Park is the variety. Within one session, we can create portraits surrounded by greenery, walk along the trails, and use the open fields and tall grasses for a softer, more natural backdrop.
That variety gives us plenty of opportunities for traditional family portraits while also leaving room for the playful moments in between. Little ones can move, explore, and be themselves, which often creates some of my favorite images from a session.

For outdoor family sessions at Hardberger Park, the most beautiful light is around sunrise and sunset. Morning sessions typically begin shortly after sunrise, while evening sessions are scheduled closer to sunset. The exact start time changes throughout the year as the days get longer or shorter.
Both give us that soft, glowy light that is such a big part of the look you see throughout my work. And while an early morning session does mean an early wake-up, that beautiful morning light can definitely be worth it!
